Lead Paint Testing

If you rent a property that was build prior to 1978, you are required to provide the tenant with the EPA’s Protect Your Family From Lead In Your Home pamphlet. Here is the link: http://www.epa.gov/lead/pubs/leadpdfe.pdf

Lead Paint Disclosure Form: If you don’t already have this disclosure incorporated into your lease, you’ll want to fill out and have your tenant initial/sign this form:http://www.epa.gov/lead/pubs/lesr_eng.pdf

The EPA pamphlet: Testing Your Home for Lead in Paint, Dust or Soil (http://www.epa.gov/lead/pubs/leadtest.pdf) is a great souce of information for landlords and property managers. In fact the EPA has an entire section of their site devoted to this topic at: http://www.epa.gov/lead/.

If you would like to test the inside of a property yourself, there are several test kits on the market. This one from 3M is not only inexpensive, but it is also very highly rated and easy to use:
